FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Food Exodus Project at CAYACC
Ft. Wayne, Indiana – February 2022 – CAYACC recently joined with HealthVisions Midwest, and Indiana Humanities to host The Food Exodus Project. Guests of the event were shown a 40-minute documentary on food deserts in the community, and the barriers that create obstacles for residents of those areas to access healthy foods. As a Black History Month tribute, the event honored local Thomas Brownlee & Sons Market, and included a panel discussion followed by a Q&A segment.
The Food Exodus Project is a documentary and series of conversations intended to raise awareness and spark dialogue on the decline in neighborhood grocery stores in underserved communities in Fort Wayne and the increase in food deserts, coupled with the reality of food insecurity. The film features interviews with residents of many of those local communities, as well as city officials, and community leaders.
The panel discussion and Q&A segment gave residents of Allen County the opportunity to learn about how the rise in food deserts is impacting the health of those areas, and have meaningful conversations about future efforts to improve food access.
